Diversity, Equity
and Inclusion

A better more inclusive
tomorrow for everyone

At Aviva, we’re committed to creating a diverse and inclusive organization for all our members. Diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) are a fundamental part of living up to our purpose of being with you today, for a better tomorrow. It means being there for all our people, serving all our customers well, and helping to contribute to fairer, more equal communities.

Aviva's land acknowledgement

We are grateful to our Mother Earth who nourishes us, gives us life, and is our greatest partner. We commit to Seven Generations thinking and will act with respect and care in all that we do. We acknowledge the errors of the past and recognize our collective responsibility to foster respectful relationships based on trust, understanding, and continued learning. We each personally take responsibility to educate ourselves about the real history of Canada. We respect the First Peoples' right to self-determination and commit to supporting their prosperity throughout our operations. We are grateful to the First Peoples for their enduring stewardship of these lands for thousands of years before us.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion through our communities

We have six employee-led groups called our Aviva communities that act as a ‘conscience’ for our organization. Each community is sponsored by a member of our Executive Committee. Our members challenge the company to think differently, and do more to ensure the inclusion of all at Aviva by:

  • Promoting change through building relationships with colleagues, leaders and partners
  • Celebrating the diversity of our people
  • Raising awareness about people’s lived experiences and backgrounds
  • Educating the workforce on topics that are less talked about but vital to an individual’s identity
  • Appreciating the value of intersectionality and the multi-faceted identities we all hold
  • Helping to make sure our corporate policies are inclusive
  • Giving our people opportunities to grow outside of their day jobs

Our communities explore, learn, plan and choose programs that help support inclusion, equity and diversity throughout the organization.
