Per the Alberta Insurance Council:
“Alberta’s Superintendent of Insurance has published Notice 04-2024: Consumer Alert: Fraudulent auto insurance from unlicensed insurance agent/broker (“ghost broker”). The purpose of this Notice is to caution Albertans about fraudulent, unlicensed insurance agents or brokers commonly known as “ghost brokers” offering fake automobile insurance for sale in Alberta.
There has been an increase in reports of ghost brokers in Alberta over the past year. These ghost brokers provide forged pink cards/insurance policies and/or misrepresent customers to get cheap insurance that may result in denied claims or void policies. They often target newcomers to Canada and/or people who are unfamiliar with Alberta’s automobile insurance system.
Consumer awareness is vital to proactively avoiding insurance scams, and general insurance agents can help protect their clients and the wider insurance industry by raising awareness of ghost brokers and how they operate. Please read and share this link with your networks and clients to spread awareness.
Thank you for your help in bringing attention to ghost brokers and helping protect Albertans from insurance scams.”
