Inflated Invoices Costs Fraudster
An Aviva Canada customer submitted a claim after being involved in a collision.
The vehicle was towed to an automotive repair shop where Aviva appraised the repair cost at approximately $9,000. An investigation into the matter began when the customer requested reimbursement from Aviva for new parts he had purchased and repairs he had completed, after Aviva had already paid an invoice for repairs. The invoice that was paid was provided by a shop that completed minor repairs to the customer’s vehicle and was found to include repairs to areas of the vehicle that had not been damaged in the collision. In addition, the signed work order that was provided to Aviva was found to have been forged. In lieu of charges being laid, the auto repair facility agreed to pay all costs to Aviva in February 2017.
