Fraud Story

Sunken Vehicle Sinks Former Police Officer

An Aviva Canada customer made a claim for the theft of his vehicle and its contents after his truck was stolen from his home in Quebec.

The vehicle was later recovered by Police from the St. Lawrence River with its VIN and license plate removed. Police used the serial number on the door of the truck to trace the ownership and notified Aviva Canada of the recovery. Further investigation determined that the customer had knowingly provided false and misleading information under oath, forged documents and instructed family members not to speak to police. He was charged with Fraud Over $5,000, Forgery, Uttering a Forged Document, Possession of a Forged Document, Attempt to Obstruct Justice and Public Mischief and on April 24, 2017, was sentenced to 15 months in prison.
