How does Aviva’s commercial ride-sharing insurance solution work for Lyft?

Lyft has a commercial insurance policy underwritten by Aviva Insurance Company of Canada that provides coverage to all registered vehicles, drivers and passengers who use the Lyft ride-sharing platform. What if I purchased options on my personal auto insurance policy like disappearing deductible or increased income replacement – will they apply when I’m driving for Lyft?

Aviva recognizes that many customers have purchased enhanced coverages on their personal auto insurance policies such as:

    • waiver of depreciation on new vehicles
    • loss of use to replace your vehicle while it’s being repaired
    • increased income replacement
    • lower deductibles

These enhancements will extend when you’re driving for Lyft if you’re insured with one of Aviva’s underwriting companies (Aviva Insurance Company of Canada, Traders General Insurance Company and Scottish & York Insurance Co. Limited) and if you've purchased the ride-sharing endorsement. Ask your Aviva broker to have this endorsement added to your policy.

Do I need to make any changes to my personal auto insurance policy?

Please contact your broker/advisor if you intend to engage in ride-sharing, as it is a requirement of your policy to report any changes to the use of your vehicle.

How do I provide proof of insurance while driving for Lyft?

An electronic certificate of auto insurance can be accessed through the Lyft app and serves as evidence of insurance under the Lyft policy.
