As a Lyft driver, knowing you and your passengers are protected is key. Aviva's robust commercial ridesharing insurance policy protects drivers from the moment they log into the Lyft app until each passenger has exited their vehicle.

How Lyft Ridesharing coverage works in Alberta

Lyft drivers are automatically covered when using the app. Here’s how it works: 

Phase 0 - App off
Driving for personal use
Phase 1 - App on Driver mode
Logged into the Lyft rideshare app and available for a request
Phase 2 - En route Passenger mode
Request accepted and driver is in transit to pick up passenger
Phase 3 - Drop-off Passenger mode
Passenger picked up for drop-off at destination until full exit from the vehicle

    In recognition of the evolving needs of customers and the growing popularity of ridesharing, Aviva developed a commercial insurance solution for Lyft drivers, so the right coverage is in place for this activity. We chose to partner with Lyft because Lyft shares many of Aviva’s values, including focusing on customers’ needs and bringing communities together. 

    How do I provide proof of insurance while driving for Lyft?

    An electronic certificate of auto insurance can be accessed through the Lyft app and serves as evidence of insurance under the Lyft policy.

    How do I make a claim?

    In the event of a claim, Lyft drivers and passengers should contact Lyft through the Lyft app or lyft.help.com

    How do I get Lyft’s Ridesharing insurance coverage?

    Lyft drivers are automatically covered by Aviva’s commercial policy without having to contact Aviva. However, you should ensure that your personal auto policy allows for your vehicle to be used for ridesharing. Please inform your insurance representative of your ridesharing plans to ensure you can be covered by Aviva’s ridesharing policy.

1Contingent Collision and Comprehensive Coverage is only available under the Aviva/Lyft Commercial policy to participating Lyft Drivers who carry this coverage on their personal automobile insurance policy.
